With a landmark plant situated in the rural town center of Mariakani, some 30Kms away from the country’s second largest city - the port of Mombasa, and a corporate office at the capital city of Nairobi, Mabati Rolling Mills Ltd (MRM) has not only grown into a multi-million dollar turnover company but has also created employment for over 1,500 people directly and indirectly, whilst developing a once rural village into a thriving commercial town.

A flagship company of the Comcraft Group of companies, MRM was originally incorporated as Mabati Ltd in 1961 when its first galvanizing plant was put up. In the late 1970’s, a tube mill and a strapping line were commissioned. The company’s cold rolling mill at Mariakani was then commissioned in 1982 while the galvanizing division, tube mill, and the strapping line were simultaneously hived off its associate companies, namely: Galsheet Kenya Ltd, Insteel Ltd and Signode Packaging Systems Ltd respectively. In the same year, the company was renamed as Mabati Rolling Mills Ltd.

Since its incorporation, almost three decades ago, MRM has dominated the steel roofing industry in Kenya. The company pioneered the ultra thin gauge rolling for galvanized steel and cold rolled drawing materials for enamelware, tube making, drum manufacturing and steel fabrication.

As part of an upgrading strategy of the company, an advanced continuous galvanizing line project was conceived in order to meet the increasing demands of both domestic and export markets .

As a result, in 1999 an investment of 30 million US dollars was made in a highly advanced continuous galvanizing line with state-of-the-art technology from world renowned Kawasaki Industries in Japan .
In 2000 the production of superior galvanized sheets and coils began and in October 2001, the manufacture of Aluminuim-Zinc coated steel was commissioned, making MRM its sole manufacturer in the African continent.

As a result of this technology, the company boasts of being the top quality producer of, galvanized, colour - coated and Aluminum-Zinc coated coils and sheets in Africa.

These products have been widely accepted in both local and export markets with MRM maintaining a leadership position in Kenya with over 50% market share. The export markets now stretch as far as the Far East, Asia, North and South America and Europe.

With a mission to provide shelter through world class roofing products, it is MRM’s desire to continue manufacturing and marketing its products for the benefit of customers, while caring for the environment and the communities in which it works.
